Hope National'sFocus on the Heart: A Scriptural and Practical Approach is endorsed by numerous people and organizations.
************************************************************* One of the original founders of the pregnancy center, prolife movement Rev. Curt Young Endorses Hope National's 'Focus on the Heart' manual.
Curt Young, senior pastor of the Church of the Atonement, was one of the original founders of the prolife, pregnancy center movement in America. For 10 years he was executive director of the Christian Action Council (later to become known as Care Net). He wrote, The Least of These, one of the original books on abortion and the need for Christians to be involved in pregnancy centers. He writes this about Focus on the Heart:
"Focus on the Heart is an exceptional manual for centers that desire to equip volunteers with a biblical foundation as well as the skills for Christ-centered counseling...
The premise behind this manual is that pregnancy resource centers are outreach ministries, mission efforts within our own cultures with the primary task of demonstrating the love of Christ and testifying of the truth of the Gospel. The two go hand in hand. To this end medical care, social services and other components of active care are often added over time to great affect, but the centers remain Christ-centered ministries in their mission and practice.
The assumption behind the effort to produce this manual has been that the pregnancy resource center is a place where Christians should never be inhibited from sharing Christ, where they feel every encouragement always and have all the support necessary in everything to testify of the goodness of the Redeemer and invite repentance and faith toward him. Honestly, should we accept a definition of success that does not include this?
At the end of the day, the most important activity in a pregnancy center is takes place in the counseling room as the volunteer counselor and client speak with each other. If there is a point where the Gospel belongs and the volunteer should have the very best support possible, it is there. This manual serves these ends. Focus on the Heart is will worth the time and effort to study it and learn the remarkable insights it contains...Read it, and you will see it is the product of deep Evangelical faith, rich with insight and full of practical wisdom that comes from decades of success in leading multiple pregnancy centers in different regions of the U.S. I commend it to you." ************************************************************** Dr. R.C. Sproul, Ligonier Ministries, FL. "it looks powerful...I pray God will use it in the battle for the lives of the unborn.." ************************************************************** Dr. D. James Kennedy, Coral Ridge Ministries, FL. "This form of Biblical counseling, I believe, is of extreme importance in this time when unwanted pregnancies and abortion propaganda are such a direct threat to women of teen-age and above. The spiritual solutions which your manual supplies are as important as the physical attention, if not moreso. I hope your manual will receive the wide dissemination and acceptance it deserves." ************************************************************** Dr. Stuart Scott, Professor of Biblical Counseling, Southern Theological Seminary, KY "I commend you on the fine work you have done with your wife in producing the manual. Unbiblical practices are being increasingly implemented under the guise of 'Christian counseling,' and I am encouraged to see that you discern these deviations from truth and have provided a truly biblical alternative for the crisis pregnancy centers to utilize...Biblical content saturates the manual, yet your conclusions reach all the way to the woman considering abortion... Overall, your manual is thoroughly biblical, well written, theologically grounded, and immensely practical." ************************************************************** Thomas Glessner, JD. President of the National Institute of Family & Life Advocates (NIFLA) "Hope National has produced an outstanding manual, Focus on the Heart. The unique blend of the authors' theological and psychological training and expertise along with their years of hands-on experience in the trenches of pregnancy help center ministries make this manual and training program a one-of-a-kind resource for volunteers. I believe the principles outlined in this manual, if used by pregnancy help centers, will truly transform the effectiveness of each center in reaching the abortion-minded client." ************************************************************** Carlene Napolitano, Director, Carson City, Nevada "The training was wonderful, challenging, informative (and then some!) interesting, humorous (at just the right times) heavy and hard, and most important, full of truth! How we, as Christians, have been duped by worldly philosophy mixed with some Bible verses!... We are very thankful that God closed the 'other' door for training so that we could received solid Biblical truth both for our personal lives and regarding the Pregnancy Center ministry...." ************************************************************** Julie Espinosa, Director (former) Canon City, Colorado "The training was 'Life changing'! I have been through two different trainings. One with (national group) and the other with (another national group). This was by far the best training I have been to!...I would recommend this training for every CPC volunteer a must!" ************************************************************** Dr. William Hatfield, Pastor, Southern Baptist Convention "Let me encourage pastors and pregnancy centers to spread the use of the best pregnancy center counseling manual I know of: Hope National's Focus on the Heart. This counseling program is the only one I have seen that is thoroughly, unashamedly biblical and evangelical. Its worldview is that of Scripture, and there is not a line of pop psychology in it. From beginning to end it treats abortion as the Bible does: sin, a spiritual issue, a matter of the heart. This leads to another compelling reason to use this curriculum: it is evangelistic. Focus on the Heart seeks not only to save the physical life of the baby, but also the spiritual life of the mother. It treats the center worker's encounter with the woman as an ideal time to present the Gospel. It attempts to make women realize that the terrible sin they are contemplating is but the tip of the iceberg of their most serious predicament: they are sinners in the eyes of a Holy God and they desperately need Christ's imputed righteousness. Focus on the Heart is head and shoulders above everything similar I have seen."
